Pinterest Day - Lego Play Bin

Hi all hope you have all been having a great week.  So I am getting around to my Pinterest post.  I know I said that Wednesday would be Pinterest day but I think I have decided that I will just have a Pinterest Day, that way I won't disappoint anyone and also take some of the stress of trying to get the post up.  See I blog for a hobby and to give back to the crafting community, so taking care of family comes first.  Hope you all understand.

With that said here is what I did using some Pinterest inspiration.

Once I pinned this my good friend hinted that this would be something her son would love.  Well with his birthday last week I went at trying to create it.  So in the pin the creator actually cut and assembled wood to make this tray.  I am not a wood worker, in fact I am terrified of most power tools.  So I decided I would try to find a tray that I could use.  I found this bin at Home Goods.  It is not flimsy but it is also not too heavy so I thought it would be perfect, and with the extra depth it could also serve as storage for the legos.  As this gift if for a three year old I also wanted to use a Lego Duplo board instead of a regular Lego board.  I found the board on Amazon and had my husband cut it down to fit inside the box.  I adhered it to the box using velcro, thinking that when he does graduate to regular Legos, we could just switch out the board.

For the front of the bin I originally planned to use vinyl.  I cut the vinyl using the Cameo and then tried to adhere it to the bin.  Well vinyl doesn't adhere to fabric very well and I knew it would just get peeled off.  So I then cut a template with freezer paper, ironed it onto the fabric front of the bin and then used fabric paint to create the name.

Lion Birthday Card with the Cricut

Hi all - Hope you have all been well.  We have been a sickly bunch over here.  I was out for the weekend and now my oldest has strep.  I am really ready for the winter and the sickies to be gone.  So today I have a really cute birthday card I made for one of my favorite little boys.  He turned the ripe old age of 3 this past weekend.  We had a fun day listening to his favorite band at a local coffee shop.  So here it is:

Card Recipe:

• Red card base is 5.5 x 5.5
• The polka dot paper is from a Cricut paper stack that came with my Expression cut at 5" square
• Birthday Lion cut at 2.5" from Create a Critter 2 cartridge and popped with a pop dot
• Party Time sentiment cut at 2" from Create a Critter 2 cartridge
• Doodlebug twine in yellow for the hat and blue for the word party.  I just used my glue pen to trace the letters and then lined the letters
• Yellow ribbon from my stash

I really love how this card turned out.  The twine adds such a special touch that makes the card stand out.  I am entering this card in two challenges:  The Pop challenge over at My Craft Spot and the Pet challenge over at Exploring Cricut.

Happy Valentine's Day

Hi all just wanted to wish you a Happy Valentine's Day, hope you get to some love from someone special today.  I wanted to share with you the rest of my Valentine's crafts.  The first is a card I made for my hubby:

Here is the card Recipe:

• Card base is 5.5" x 5.5" white card stock. I inked the edges with red Staz On ink and rounded the corners with the corner chomper
• The felt heart garland and mini clothespins are from Michaels.  They were one $1 so I had to get them
• The owls are cut with the Cameo and can be found in the Silhouette store here
• The heart bubble tag was a free shape of the week from Silhouette.  I printed the phrase and cut out the shape using the print and cut feature on the Cameo.  I then lightly inked it with the red Staz On ink
• Used some stickles on the owl ears and the eyes to add some sparkle to the card

So I have found what I don't like about the Cameo.  When you purchase an image that has layers you have to separate the layers yourself, meaning you can't pull in one layer at a time like the Cricut.  Makes the design process a little longer.  But there are always pluses and minuses to everything!!

Here is the second project I have for you today:

I had to make goodies for my daughters school party today.  I decided to make some Red Velvet Whoopie pies.  I found these cute owl bags at Michaels for $1.00.  This is a steal because there were 25 bags in the package.  I then used the Cameo to print and Cut these labels on adhesive card stock.  Talk about an easy way to make labels, I was done with all 15 labels in about 10 minutes.

Pinterest Wednesday - ABC Valentines

Hi all hope your week is going well.  I have been baking up a storm for my kiddos Valentine's parties.  So today I have for you a card that I found on Pinterest posted by the official Cricut page.  Here is the pin and the web link that the pin goes to:

So I did not use my Cricut to make this, I used my Cameo.  It is just so much easier to use fonts and cut with so I thought since I needed to whip out 15 of these I would go that route.  I used a font called Cupid de Lock which you can find for free on my Fonts page on Pinterest.  I only cut out the I, the heart and the U.  I then filled in those spaces with some red stickles.  I finished off the cards by adding some random washi tape.  My daughter loved them, as she writes I heart U on everything she does.

Kids Valentines with Create a Critter 2

Hi all hope your weekend has been fun!!!  Ours was pretty good except that my DH is really sick.  So he has been holed up in the basement and I have been taking care of the kiddos and spending my evenings in the craft room.  I have been crafting up a storm on Valentine's.  Yesterday I got all the kids class Valentine's done and the ones I made for them personally.  So tonight I am going to share the Valentine's that I made for my kiddos.  I really love how they came out and they couldn't have been simpler thanks to the Create a Critter 2 cartridge.  If you don't have this cartridge it is a must buy.  All the images are just so cute.  And no I don't work for Provo Craft.  So here they are:

Koala Valentine Recipe:

• White card base cut at 5.5" x 5.5"
• Ribbons from Michaels sewn into the card base using the We R Memory Keepers Sew Ribbon tool
• Koala cut from the Create a Critter 2 cartridge at 3.75"
• Christmas Red stickles and black stickles
• Card frame from a Valentine's paper pack from Michaels

Butterfly Valentine Recipe:

• White card base cut to size A2
• Grey card frame embossed with the Cuttlebug Simply Charmed companions folder
• Butterfly cut from the Create a Critter 2 cartridge at 3.75"
• Christmas red and Bubblegum stickles

Pinterest Friday - Kids Valentines

Hi all Happy Friday!!!

So I know I didn't make it for Pinterest Wednesday, but I still do have a Pinterest inspiration for you today.  Of course you know that Valentine's Day is next week.  For us that means kids Valentine's for school parties.  My husband and I try not to make that big of deal about it, instead choosing to focus more on loving each other every day.  He does usually get me flowers though!!  So today I am going to share with you a Valentine I made for my youngest.  She is 3 and does have a party at preschool next week.  I found this inspiration on Pinterest of course.  Here is the pin:

So once I saw this, I started saving our toilet paper rolls.  It was actually very quick to get more than enough because there are three girls in our house!!  So here is what I decided to make:

Cute right!!  So I used my Cameo for this project.  I actually made the chevron paper in the Design Studio.  I then print and cut it.  Oh and if you need to know the size of paper to cover the roll it is 6" x 4.25".  I also used the Cameo to cut out the heart for the wings.  I embossed the wings using my Cuttlebug and the love bug folder.  I realize the sentiment tag is a little big.  The intention is to have my daughter trace her name since that is what she is practicing in school and I thought it should be bigger rather than smaller.  I used the Cameo print and cut feature to make the tag.  The antennae are pipe cleaners and I thought wiggly eyes would be fun.  She and I are going to stuff the tube with some Valentine's candy.

Pinterest Wednesday : Mug Brownie

Hi all, I know I am a day late on this one.  It was due to my travels this past week.  We had a wonderful time with my brother and his family.  So today I decided to do something easy peasy.  I found this recipe on Pinterest for a brownie in a mug and I just had to try it.  Here is the original pin:

The link to the pin doesn't go anywhere but a thumbnail picture.  So I just followed the directions on the pin.  I combined 1/4 cup each of sugar, flour, and cocoa powder.  Then I mixed in 2Tbsp of olive oil and 3Tbsp of water.  I then placed the mug in the microwave for exactly 1 minute and 40 seconds.  Here is what came out:

The top left picture is of the ingredients, the top right picture is of them mixed all together, the bottom left is what came out of the microwave, and finally the bottom right is my girls enjoying the brownie.  I was pleasantly surprised that it came out as well as it did.  The girls loved it.  I made another for myself and topped it with some vanilla ice cream.  It was really good, but really rich.  I wouldn't say the best brownie I have ever had, but if you really had a craving this would certainly fix that problem.  Now if you are on Weight Watchers, like I am supposed to be, it came out to 15 points plus for one whole mug.  I couldn't finish it because it was so rich.
